BIOGRAPHY

Born in Shanghai, China, Layla Y. Li studied gemstone and material science at Jianqiao College in Shanghai in 2015 and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in 2019. 2017 she started her self-study in introductory jewelry design courses. 2018, she spent a semester at AIGS Graduate Institute in Thailand, earning a Certificate of Certified Gemologist in Asia. 2019 she entered Savannah College of Art and Design in the USA and is now studying for a Master of Fine Arts in scad, specializing in Metal and Jewelry. Currently lives in Savannah, GA.

She believes art is a language, a new link to the world, a way for people to review themselves. Her designs are about finding the delicate balance between aesthetics and function also creating a good connections between people and objects. The goal she is trying to achieve is to create jewelry accessories that are both functional and artistic. Her academic back- ground has a strong influence on her artworks; with a background in geology, Layla enjoys working from an observer’s perspective. She works with the things around her, observes their characteristics and development, by adding them to her designs.
